MecaTest Mobile Application,
Tutorial

MecaTest is suitable for engine from 3  to 6 cylinders with a regular time between ignitions.

Regarding 6 cylinder engines, Mecatest is suitable for V60°, flat-6 engines and 6 in-line engines but is not designed for V6 engines produced from V8 engines or with a non-regular time between ignitions (for example: 150°- 90°…)

In case of any doubts, please refer to a technician with expertise in the relevant technical area.

Step 1 : Prepare the engine

Before performing the relative compression test, the engine needs to be prepared so it will not start during cranking. This can be done by disconnecting the crankshaft sensor, disabling the fuel circuit, or the ignition system…

If you don’t know how to proceed, please refer to a professional.

The engine should be at operating température.

Step 2 : Connect the iPhone to a Bluetooth Speaker

For the best experience, connect a bluetooth speaker or earphones to your iPhone. So you can perform the test on your own. If not, an assistant is required to inform what is displayed on the screen during the test.

Step 3 : Configure Mecatest

– Select the number of cylinders of your engine

– Switch on the audio timer, you can press the “speaker” button to help you to set the audio level. The audio timer will give you 15 seconds to go to the driver’s seat.

Step 5 : Follow the instructions 1/2

The 15-second countdown ends, listen to the instruction. The terminal must be switched off.

During the phase calibration, keep the terminal switched off

Step 6 : Follow the instructions, be prepared to crank

As soon as you hear the first BEEP, crank the engine and keep it cranking until you hear the second BEEP. (7 secondes)

Step 7 : Display of the results

The test results are displayed on your iPhone

If there is a difference of more than 20% between the minimum value and the maximum value, further investigation are needed.

Please note that MecaTest is not able to determine the cylinder positions, so the result could shift if you run the test more than once.
